98% of the oil temp gauges are electric, connecting to a sensor in the oil
pan front. If you have an aftermarket 10-qt pan (which you should), there
will be a plugged port on the front, threaded 1/4-SAE pipe- that a temp sensor
can go into. I used an Autometer gauge in a little panel mounted where the
unused ash tray was, and a three-position switch where the cigar lighter
used to be. I added a second temp sensor in the front of my ZF near the ring
gear position. Rotating the switch, I get 'Off', 'engine oil temp' and 'ZF
lube temp'. Power to the new gauge light is the OEM cigar lighter power lead.
