I really don't know what the trick is.  Every time I bring back car parts (especially at the Ogdensburg/Prescott crossing) I get the criminal treatment from Canada Customs.  I have had my vehicle gone through on 2 occasions.
 
When I was flying back from Florida, where I picked up some car parts, at the Customs clearance in the Toronto airport, they ushered me over to the "concrete room" and went through my bags - All I had with me was intake manifold "turkey tray" gasket, Holley rebuild kit and some car horns.  I had all the receipts with me from UAP/NAPA.  Almost missed my connecting flight from Toronto to Ottawa. 
 
On the other hand, when I bring over anything else, it seems I get waived-by.  The best example was my recent airplane purchase.  The airplane was ferry flown from the States to Canada. I drove back with all the extra aeronautical parts (the value of the parts was quite substantial).  The boarder guard at the Ambassedor bridge in Windsor trusted me to declare those parts along with the airplane when the airplane landed in Canada, and waived me through !!!  I was so taken aback by the very trusting nature of the guard that I called the ferry pilot and made sure he declared the parts along with the aircraft when he landed in Canada.  It has to be the best and most memorable CBSA treatment I have ever had.
 
Personally, I am convinced that when the Boarder guards hear "Car Parts" or equivalent, lights and sirens go off in their heads.

I just got back from the US from picking up my new Wilkinson deep-dish GR4 wheels and windshield and I was wondering ..... Are customs officials born as total pr!cks or are they trained to be that way?
After dealing with them and wiping my lips ( from kissing their asses for 1.5 hrs), I find myself driving home dreaming about physically hurting them and not getting caught. Is this normal?
