Your car is a 1973 and thus smog-exempt. Don't go kicking that hive. If
you try to get the car 'reclassified', it would then have to meet the smog
regs for the new engine, meaning catalytic converters etc. etc.
Just trot down to the DMV with all your paperwork, but without the car, and
register it. Better yet, go to your local AAA office and let them do it.
If you're not an AAA member, it's worth joining just to avoid the
potential hassle over this one issue.
