Chuck,

Were you on the track with your Pantera or another kind of car?
I have seen SCCA and VARA races there and the long straight and banking are great for very fast cars but not for others

I was on the Fontana/Ontario track 2 weeks ago. The 'in field' course was built
s an
fter-thought, squeezed into the space. There is plenty of 'back lot' space to
reate
pseudo-road coarse where they have set up 'larger auto-Xs', but I don't know
ow
ppealing that would be. The coarse would have to be set up to be focused on
he kind
f layout good for Panteras.

think Laurie may have really come up with a great idea.
I think San Diego would be a good idea because it's a short drive for a lot of
ocal
anteras (including LA and Orange County). A lot more people might attend if
hey can
ick single day events to participate in. San Diego is also a vacation
estination that
an draw people from a distance. The challenge is to schedule events to draw
articipants. You probably can get a lot of locals to come to a core Saturday
ll day gig
ith a car show, new vendor products, a BBQ at the car show, and dinner in the
vening.
hen fill in around that for the hard core types who want 2 or 3 days of
vents.

ut is there a track, people seem to want that. Is Fontana open for events like
his?
illow springs (a bit of a drive)? Other options?

would love to work to help plan an event in the San Diego area. I have
he time now and enthusiasm.
y bet would be that many more people would attend in San Diego WITH their
ars. Those who fly would have great access to flights. There are countless
otels that are geared toward conventions and are reasonably priced. The
rea is gorgeous... I've attended several events where cars were displayed
n grass in Seaport Village right by the water; they were spectacular.
o much to see and do there as well. Don't underestimate the SD folks
nsofar as willingness to plan and run the event. I've seen that they have
lassy tastes while are conservative on costs. Please don't out-rule the idea
efore exploring the possibilities. While Reno was lovely too and fun..
here were not many cars there, and isn't that the point?

Even if such a location is identified, we would then need local club
embers willing to help plan and execute the event--another
ot-insignificant
hallenge.
