[DeTomaso] Drag radial blow out today on interstate (Temp A tire)

For all my daily drivers and other rigs, I typically buy Traction A and
Temperature A All Season or Mud & Snow tires. For someone from AAA to
say a tire with an A Temp rating is not made for highway driving is
ridiculous. Now on the other hand, a DRAG Radial should NOT be driven
on the Interstate. Now I know some will roll there eyes at this next
statement. I had a long conversation with the Tire Tech guru for Silver
State, and was told in no uncertain terms, you show up with these Drag
Radials (I was looking specifically at the Nitto's). you -will- be sent
packing. The justification was that most drag radials are made with
much softer sidewalls in order to allow enough flex during launch at the
start line, in Drag Racing. If it's listed commercially for DRAG use,
then it's meant for DRAG use, not street use. With that in mind... all
bets are off.

It made sense to me anyway. And if you think about it, a quarter mile
stretch to heat the tire up is hardly anything compared to tens of
miles at 60, or 70 MPH. So with that in mind, it may be they have a
Temp A rating, but that is in consideration of their intended use, which
would appear to be Drag Racing.

Just my two cents, but I'd put other tires on.

I will get new non drag tires now but if it had no hole did it overheat and melt away from rim? The temp rating is A. It was cool today and I have driven it way longer on hot days at speed to further places many times.
