Hi guys,
The legendary Brooklands race track in Surrey, England, was also the home of
a vehicle testing center in the very early days of the automobile. A Test
Hill was constructed, and it was common for manufacturers to test their cars'
ability to negotiate this hill--which not all cars could do. It starts off
fairly mellow and then becomes incredibly steep at the end.
Later on, it became a source of competition, as drivers would compete to see
who could have the fastest time climbing the hill. Go fast enough, and it
turns into an Evel Knievel ramp at the end, so good brakes are necessary too!
For a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Brooklands, the test hill was
opened up to all comers. Here's a Youtube video showing several cars giving
it their all; the first is Geoff Peters in his 550 hp, 2500 pound '72 GT5
conversion...
