[DeTomaso] Pandora update

First, let me say how much I appreciated all the support I got at the Fun Rally about my "mechanic nightmare." I'd meet people, they'd ask what year Pantera I owned etc., and when I started telling my story, they would say, "oh, you're the guy I've read about on the forum!" They would then proceed to express sympathy and moral support, often with a similar story of their own to tell. It helped, believe me.

As far as what's new; on Monday I called the engine builder who told me the engine is finally in his shop. He can't find any leaks, however, but since he saw the oil dripping when I first took the car to him, and since after a few days on the rack, even the mechanic saw a small leak, he knows it's not my imagination. He said he'd replace all the seals, just in case.

Today, I tried to call the engine builder again to check the status of the repair, and to see if the engine had found it's way back to the mechanic's shop, but I had to leave a message. I still have no definitive address as to where the car is, but at least the mechanic delivered the motor for repair. I hope the reinstallation takes less time than what's happened so far!

If I don't hear anything by Monday, it's back to the phone again.

Sincerely,

Chris

Dear Chris,

So what is the Pantera and engine status?

                         Sorry
to bring up a sore subject, Chuck Engles

While we're talking about going 140, I did that in my Magnum on the
way to the Fun Rally--and it was still pulling. I ran out of road before I
ran out of speed!

The track was fun too, but the guy ahead
of me wouldn't keep up with Mike Drew, so I was stifled since I couldn't
pass.

Sincerely,

Chris (still wishing
I could have been driving my Pantera)

part of this discussion? Larry called me last night and said he thought he was
doing 140 mph based on his tach showing 4,000 rpm and him being in 4th. I said
that speed smells like BS and fed the data into the ZF gear calculator and came
up with 97 mph based on his 3.77 R&P and 27" dia. tires.

eyes were on the road not the speedo or tach, I new Larry was on my right rear
corner so I kept left to provide enough room for us to go through the second
corner of the esses two wide if necessary. Larry lost the rear end right on a
transition of pavement and all I saw from there was a red blur and dust. I'm
eagerly waiting for someone to provide the video that is supposed to be out
there from a couple sources.

hindsight I admit that it was a late move on my part, but Larry could easily
have given up the place too, after all I was considerably quicker than him,
especially in that section of the track (to the point of lapping him in the
Friday am sessions).
