[DeTomaso] NPC air speed. indicators

Can the engineers or pilots on the list tell me why a 300 million jet like the Airbus uses a pieto tube to measure air speed instead of a GPS?  Seems like obsolete technology when a $125 unit from WalMart can do a better job and isn't subject to icing over.     Michael in Savannah

Dear Forum,


                Really dumb question:  what is the best thing to do with old out of date racing helmets?    
             I have accumulated three over two decades of track shenanigans.   I hate to throw them out.    I shouldn't give them to my nephews because, well, the helmets would probably be used for very creative and unauthorized purposes.          
            Any ideas?
