[DeTomaso] Handling Problem

I've heard tire shops won't change only 2 tires on AWD cars, presumably for
similar drivetrain reasons.

Sure enough the problem was caused by the mismatched rear tires. I switched
the rears from right to left and the symptoms were the opposite. The
circumference only differed by about 7/16". I had never experienced this
before, would the same thing happen on a vehicle with a live rear axle?
Thanks to all who responded.

they

Oh, that makes it easy to sort out. You have mismatched tires on the rear
of the car??????

You can't buy *one* new rear tire. Or else you wind up suffering symptoms
like, well....like you're suffering now! Even if was the same
brand/size/model of tire, it's likely that you would have had problems
unless the 'old' tire was almost new. But given that you've got a totally
different brand/model (hopefully not size???) tire, well....duh. :>)

The good news is, you should easily be able to buy a second tire to match
the one you fitted on the way to Reno and have no problems, since that tire
*probably* won't have worn enough to make a difference.
