I did the DB starter a year or so ago.

The stock stud now in my hand is an overall length of 35mm.

One end has about 9 mm of threads.

Other end has about 17mm of threads

Center  section is about 9mm.

I very easily found longer studs at the local 'old time' hardware  
store in one of those paper,  multi-compartment slide-out and lift-the- 
top-up selection thingies.

Can't remember what the new length was that I purchased, but as you  
wrote, not too hard to figure out...now that you know what you're  
starting with.  ;-)
