I think this is exactly what I did. I am pretty compulsive so I will take it all apart and put it back. The modified relay looked pretty amateur, but now that I know a lot more about the car, I bet that's the way it was done from new. thanks everyone for the advice. i will hunt down the TSB. I think it will be a miracle if this car ever moves out of my basement on its own power. justin
I forgot to mention that when Relay Rick Moseley was working on my car's
electrical system, he found that the wiring at my headlight relay failed to
match that of the factory wiring diagram. At the time neither of us knew
about the modification to the system used in 1974 cars. He found the same
'error' in his own car, which was also a 1974 (mine is a '72 with a '74
harness/relay panel installed). On both cars, he switched the wiring around at
the relay to match the '73 wiring diagram (thus changing it from the factory
system for the '74 cars) and then swapped the connections at the motor so
that it worked properly.
I suppose if I was really anal, knowing what I now know, I'd go under the
dash and change it all back.
