[DeTomaso] oil , zinc , ZF gear oil

Thanks, what about the zinc additive in the engine oil? I aHad always been
told not to use a synthetic in an old engine. I was told that the synthetic
would dissolve  lacquers that had built up on the engine parts and then clog
oil ports and lines. So what's the real deal? Can I use a synthetic? I used
Amsoil in My Jaguar XK8 and my 911 C2, if not synthetic what oil is good for
the northeast and how much zinc and what brand ( if there is a brand )
should I use if I need to use real oil?
