Yes, please check the timing; it's a common problem.  Get a silver permanent
sharpie, and draw a line at 8 degrees BTDC.  It's a notch behind the mark
that says 10.  Then hook up the timing light and look at the strobe while
it's chug-chug-chugging.  If it's not far off, don't worry about it and
concentrate on the carburetor.  It's pretty easy from inside the passenger
compartment.  I could adjust the timing as I am driving, but a misplaced
elbow could cause serious injury.
