My advice to you regarding GPS, be wary of cell based GPS navigation 
devices.  I had a very expensive Nextel GPS navigation phone about 5 years 
ago, no bueno.

The GPS program in the phone ONLY works when it can communicate with the 
server, meaning, no cell coverage no navigation ability.  Traditional GPS 
units use signals from the geosynchronous satellites instead of a server to 
relay the info.   I found this out the hard way when I went to Duluth 
Minnesota, my son was attending an Outward Bound Class.  The msg, "Unable to 
Locate Server" was sickening.

Nothing worse than having no GPS, no map, being in a highly wooded area at 
night and in the fog.
