One thing that helps all '72 engines is to advance the cam timing back to '71 
specs, if it hasn't already been done. The crank sprocket for the cam chain 
on the desirable double roller chains normally has three or occasionally more 
keyway slots to do this. And changing heads lifts the compression- ideally with 
aluminum ones that allow up to 10-1/2:1 compression on 87 octane gas. Mileage 
goes up, too. If you keep the revs down around 5500, stock cast pistons will 
live a long and happy life. Good luck- J Deryke
