Hmm, well I'd still be interested in what's under the front cover.  If  
the teeth on the dizzy gear are sharp, that kind of indicates a heavy  
load and wear doesn't it? Again, agreeing with you, it wouldn't have  
an affect on one journal.  My thoughts, thinking way of the box here,  
is that maybe that journal was oversized for the bearings used?   
Something wrong with the main bearing caps near that rod journal,  
blockage in the crank, blockage in the oil feed to the main journal,  
etc.

Oh, and if your going to throw the block away, would you consider  
instead shipping it to me?  I don't need it in good shape, in fact  
back shape is just fine.  I have a project idea.  :)
