[DeTomaso] Mustang rotor/stud problem resolved

Hi guys,

Just an update to my earlier query on behalf of Thierry Monney in
Switzerland.

In reading the various articles and e-mails people have written about
conducting the '65-67 Mustang front rotor swap, it seemed that everybody had the same
problem--the holes in the Mustang rotor were slightly larger in diameter than
the stock Pantera studs, so that they would simply spin when put into
position.

As it turns out, the rotors I bought for Thierry had the opposite
problem--the shank of the Mustang studs was *smaller* than the Pantera studs, so they
wouldn't fit at all! Rather than enlarging the hole, he elected to chuck his
Pantera studs into a lathe and turn them down slightly. He wrote:

Regarding the studs, I did machine the 17mm diameter & reduce it to 15.8mm.
Then I pressed them into the mustang disk (5.5 tons was needed), I stopped
when the threaded side gets out at aprox  30mm length (as original)
Then a collegue arc-weld them a bit, just to be sure they wont move. (pic
was taken after I clean them out)

He sent me several photos; it looks like a very professional job. The
rotors are now mounted on the car and he will take it for a test-drive tomorrow.

In the meantime I've been passing on all the information you've been sending
(including Chris' brake squeaking problem due to the anti-noise (!) spring) so
he should be in great shape.

Thanks to all!

Mike
