The plug that came off my 73 tank has no gasket, and there is no flat surface. just a big threaded hole. When I replace it, do I use any sealer on the threads?? IF it is not a pipe thread, then I am not sure how it sealed in the first place.

Justin,

Gas Tank Drain Plug M22 x 1.5.

The drain plug is not a pipe thread. It seals flat against a gasket surface and requires a gasket.

Google M22 banjo fittings and you easily spend the afternoon.
