A word of caution. The window lift arm is assisted by a spring  which is 
always under pressure. You must move the window lift arm to the maximum  up 
position by supplying power to the motor or you must clamp the window lift  arm to 
the frame of the mechanism before you remove the window motor/gearbox.  Since 
your gearbox is busted, you need to clamp the lift arm to the frame with  vise 
grips or a c-clamp. If the lift arm is not restrained, it will move with  
great force when you disengage the motor/gearbox from the lift arm sector  gear.
