[DeTomaso] Engine Detail, Hood Vent refurbish questions

Engine Bay:
Does anyone have any recs on specific paint types to give a shiny black appearance in the engine bay? I want to freshen up the black coating without removing the engine/Line-X etc.  It seems you could repaint it safely if you cover everything well with plastic/tape and were careful.  I sprayed a small amount of satin black Rustoleum on a test area but I didnt like the look.
Ideas/suggestion?
 
Plastic Black Hood Vents:
I have the ABS black plastic rectangular hood vents and the paint keeps peeling off.  I see Byers has them new in Aluminum but I want to refurbish mine if possible. Will any special paint adhere long term to the plastic without peeling with the wind and heat in that area?  It appears they were painted with semi gloss originally.
