The valve springs can be removed and the oil seals can be installed with the
heads on the car.

The type of valve spring compressor used to do this is Moroso # 62370 and is
sold by Jegs as # 710-62370 for ~$82.

A similar compressor is sold by Summit as #SUM-906784 for ~$42.

Google Moroso 62370 and you will find many sellers ...... maybe a bargain
can be found.

Articles covering this procedure always show the valves being held closed by
compressed air with the piston at TDC. This isn't that simple, if the piston
is not at exact TDC, 100psi of air will likely make the crank rotate forward
or backward. This means you need to put the car in gear and use the e-brake
to hold the engine.

A way to simplify the problem and also eliminate the need for compressed air
is to move the piston down a fair ways before TDC and feed as much medium
size nylon cord thru the spark plug hole as you can get. Move the piston toward
TDC. The nylon cord will conform to the combustion chamber shape and hold
the valves closed. You can now use the spring tool to change the springs or
seals. After the springs or seals have been changed, move the piston back down a
little and pull the nylon cord out.

Have fun,
