Bill, Ignition voltage of 8 volts during cranking doesn't cut it. I think the MSD tech said their distributor won't work below 11.5 volts or above 14 volts. Scott

 1 volt lost in the ground strap during cranking (when the battery  terminal voltage will be around 9 volts) is a very significant loss. Under these  conditions, the starter motor, and ignition, would only have about 8 volts  applied.
