Will,

I think your stock motor also has the two part stock valves. They started
life as two parts then were welded into one valve. There are a lot of them
that have gone back to being two parts. Having a valve fall into a cylinder
as the motor is running is not a good thing.

Sorry to say pull the heads, replace the valves, a bit of porting and head
work and you will never have a problem with them.

That should be open chamber heads and low compression.

Why?

but I'd put some new valve springs in.
