You did it right; using 5/16" bolts to hold something drilled for 3/8" allows 
a 'float' of about 0.031" if things loosen up- precisely what Tom Monroe 
warned about. Since he used to work for Ford during the GT-40 effort, I suspect he 
knows what he's talking about in his assembly books. Rest assured that your 
finished powertrain will not shake from having something off-center, and that a 
re-used stock bolt won't snap off during or after assembly. Good luck- J
