[DeTomaso] fuel gauge

When Bill Taylor and I looked into fuel senders a while ago, we found that
the potentiometer section of an Alfa Romeo sender was variably wound- the
spacing between the wires was different on top than in the middle. In all the
Pantera senders (there are at least three different ones '71-75), the
identical-looking potentiometer's wire spacing is very regular. So we concluded that an
Alfa potentiometer adapted into a Pantera sender assembly would likely give weird
results, or at least some calibration difficulty in the tall, oddly-shaped
Pantera tank. Alfa tanks are low and wide.
On the low-fuel warning light part of the sender, its a 1/2" long copper
contact attached to the float arm part of the sender, that makes separate contact
with a piece on the bottom of the potentiometer to complete its circuit and
turn on a light. This is identical in both the Pantera and Alfa senders. I'm at
a loss as to how this could turn on "early" as the float in any sender must be
nearly at the bottom of its swing before the short contact will reach ground.
Good luck- J DeRyke
