[DeTomaso] Third fan / cooling problems at idle.

In my case it has made a great difference. Last fall I pulled my radiator
to enhance the position of the two SPAL fans. During the reinstall I didn't
pay much attention to which hose went to the top and which went to the
bottom. A few weeks later several of us went to the Italian Car Fest in
Grapevine, TX. In 95 deg heat my car began to overheat (250) in stop and go
freeway traffic. This was a first for me.

Upon returning I switched water pumps and thermostats and had the radiator
power flushed all to no avail. Any time spent at idle and I would hit
230-250 even when it was only in the high 80's outside.

Today I reversed the hoses and after a long period of idling in the garage
in 105 deg heat the engine temp never got above 205. While I haven't had
time for an extended road test in this heat, I think my problem has been
solved. BTW I have a brass radiator from Bobby Byers and the water
definitely has to enter from the bottom to work correctly in my car.

Just my experience.

Chris,

Not to worry. It is plumed correctly.

The OEM Pantera routing is that the passenger side pipe (water from the
engine to the radiator) goes to the bottom fitting on the radiator and the
driver
side pipe (water to the engine from the radiator) goes to the top fitting
on
the radiator.

Does it make a difference? I doubt it matters much from a cooling
standpoint. From a mechanical installation standpoint, reversing the OEM
routing means
the cooling pipes or hoses would have to cross over each other on their
way
to the radiator. This would take up space in a crowed area.

Have fun,
