I really don't think so, it seems to work for me :).  It's easy to compute octane and average changes.  Look up the specs for  what "gasoline" really is and what the oil companies use toluene for.  There are some FUD, (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) articles, but they are far outweighed by positive test and user comments.  They usually comment that it doesn't do any good except to boost octane and prevent detonation in higher output engines...well duh.
