[DeTomaso] Checking Steering Rack

To check the rack for bushing wear:
  1. Jack-up the front right side of the car to raise the front passenger-side tire off the ground
  2. Grasp the tire at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and wiggle left-right-left-right. There should be no movement. If there is, it could be the rack or the wheel bearing.
  3. Lay on the ground so you can see the tie-rod where it enters the rack housing and have a friend wiggle the wheel in the same manner. If the rack bushing is shot, you will see the tie rod end move up and down relative to the rack housing.

  Rebuild your rack, get a full alignement and corner weighting, enjoy how effortless it is to 
  drive your car at speed on the freeway!
