FWIW- over the last 27 yrs I've found three (3) different oil pans for
351-Cs. Our Pantera engine's (Sept '72 car build date) came with a Ford-blue-painted
pan with rudimentary crank scrapers (Boss/HO?) in the sloping rearward part
and a simple horizontal baffle around the pickup. This pan was stamped '06 06
72' and and 'D2AEs 675 BA', on the central external part of the sump.
The next pan from a Feb '70-build junkyard engine had only the horizontal
lower baffle around the pickup. No date stamp and no paint.
The 3rd from a '74 wrecking yard engine, had no baffles at all; it is only a
bucket and also had no date stamp nor paint. I've never seen another Ford pan
with any sort of date or p/n stamp, including a couple of 351-W pans.

All three stock pans used identical sheetmetal with identical volume within a
few grams. None of the baffle spot-welds are visible externally so one pan
cannot be told from another without removal. IMHO, no stock pan will prevent
losing crank bearings like an Aviad or Armando pan thus are equally worthless
except for history. Cheers- J DeRyke
