Only one I've come across is when Jr Wlson engine-dynoed both (open pipes) on
a 426-cube stroker Fontana Cleavor. As I remember him telling it, he found a
mid-range torque increase but lost some 200 rpms at the top of 5th gear. Since
in ORRs he was looking for top-end, he scrapped the 180s. Jr thouight the
drop-off came from gas-resistence to flowing through the convolutions and extra
tube length of the 180s and to this day he still runs 4-into-1. So as usual,
the answer is, it kinda depends on what specifically you want from your car.
