Part of a decklid's reaction to a busted latch seems to depend on how good
the deck shocks are. The speed you're travelling may not matter either. Since
the decklid weighs some 40 lbs, you won't notice much rise with depressurized
shocks to help open it. Jr Wilson used to run ORRs with the decklid unlatched &
no shocks at all, to vent any air pressure trapped back there. He found that
up to speeds around 225, the lid would only rise a couple of inches from air
flow. This also tells me the back end of a stock-bodied, wing-less car with a
front air dam is pretty balanced as far as air flow above & underneath. FWIW- J
