I do not think that Dana should be penalized because the car is missing.
Maybe you should have kept better track of it.
Dana's motives are honorable and not out of the bounds of ethical norm for 
the Internet.

I would give him a chance to respond, no matter how long it takes. I am sure 
this is not doing you great harm.
