Michael,
Many of the lights they are talking about are similar
to what you are talking about
In my case I don't have the room and sometimes
have trouble putting the nut on the top of the air
cleaner... that's how tight it is
 
Again it is all about visibilty
I could mount a light on the wing I
have as nobody can miss that damn thing
sticking out
