MD, I am no expert but am forced to do the job myself due to the fact that I trust no one. This may be a personality flaw or the that I am an engineer, but I just can't seem to get over it. I commend you on the racing aspect, I don't see that here in motor city, show no go. Many of the components I have put into my engine overhaul have been the same or similar components you have used in your ORR car. This has made me think that that it has been the right decision on component selection. You are running the Comp Cam
              Grind FC 304RF-HR10
   correct?
What is your idle speed, and what carb are you running with it.
You got to love the bobble head idle that the cam give you. VooooooP.
  Happy 4th dude.

Just between you and I you sound like a hellva better tuner then I am but I am convinced that several engine failures can be tied to guys leaning out or running on the opposite end during WOT conditions... I can set the timing, check the plugs but the Holly continues to be a mystery to me...and I am sure the IR-EFI won't be any better which is probably why I have put it off for the last 12 months because the Pantera has run so well in the last year and 3 ORR's...its gonna be a big stretch for me to go to EFI althought I am committed to it.
MD, with a garage full to tools but none to fix a Holly! ;-]>

I switched to normal copper core plugs and the hot start problem went away for at least 10 starts until I fouled the plugs, should have bought one step hotter. Platinum plugs are defiantly a problem in our cars, they foul quickly. I have narrowed down the problem with my idle as a idle bleed orifice problem. I am not getting enough air into the idle circuit to run the optimum fuel air ratio. I have a idle bleed screw set ordered and should be able to try it on Friday.
Thanks for all your help, further developments to come.

Dear Richard,

Ah-ha! So that explains it. I always wondered why it was that such a hot shot plug would specifically do so poorly in an ostentsibly normal engine.

Warmest regards, Chuck Engles
