IMHO,
 
The spot welded metal chassis of the Pantera is a better electrical  
grounding system than any cable or array of cables.
 
However, the method you suggest certainly will supplement  the existing 
ground system.
 
The main problem with older electrical systems are corrosion at the  
connection points .... battery terminals, ground straps, ground connections,  
connector pins, lamp sockets, fuse holders, et al.
