[DeTomaso] 73L dying - Resolved !

My car is odd, I guess. The pink wire was directly connected to the
coil and I could not find a series resistor ANYWHERE near the key
connector. Maybe it is hidden somewhere in the middle of the cable.

I guess I'd better get a 1.4 ohm resistor and insert it in the circuit.

What wattage should be that resistor be, 5W ?

Konrad,

Glad you found the problem.

The 1.4 ohm resistance is intended to be a current limiting resistance
to
keep the coil from burning up when the key is on, the points are closed
but the
engine is not running. (Kicking back in the garage, working on the car,
or eating a burger at the local drive-in, but the engine off). The
early Panteras used fixed wirewound resistors mounted on the panel next
to the coil. The newer cars have a Nickel-chromium wire section in
series with the Light-Blue wire up near the ignition
switch terminal block at the steering column.
