I have always been told ring and pinion gears are machined as pairs and should not be interchanged. What are the consequences of exchanging one ring gear for another, assuming the gears are of the same ratio and manufacturer? Would checking their contact pattern with a layout fluid indicate any improper engagement? Fred T.
