That's one of the reasons those cars look so much wider, because they are so low to the ground. When you see a stock narrow-body Pantera on original-spec tires, they positively teeter and tower over the later cars. In Italy one year, I got to see a bone-stock pushbutton Pantera parked next to a very stock GT5. I meant to take a photo to show the contrast, but didn't get around to it, and the pushbutton owner took off and didn't participate in the rest of the event.
