    I wouldn't pull the head unless something indicated it should be. 
    There are plenty of other things to do before pulling a head.<br>
    <br>
    - Check for vacuum leaks at the intake<br>
    - Pull the spark plugs and read them<br>
    - Check all the plug wires for continuity and firing order<br>
    - Pull the valve cover and check the operation of the valves while
    cranking<br>
    - Do a cylinder compression test<br>
    - Do a cylinder leak-down test<br>
    <br>
    I agree the problem is probably not the carb and it's something on
    -that- side of the engine, but pulling the head seems extreme when a
    whole lot more troubleshooting needs to be done first.<br>
