I wouldn't pull the head unless something indicated it should be.
There are plenty of other things to do before pulling a head.<br>
<br>
- Check for vacuum leaks at the intake<br>
- Pull the spark plugs and read them<br>
- Check all the plug wires for continuity and firing order<br>
- Pull the valve cover and check the operation of the valves while
cranking<br>
- Do a cylinder compression test<br>
- Do a cylinder leak-down test<br>

I agree the problem is probably not the carb and it's something on
-that- side of the engine, but pulling the head seems extreme when a
whole lot more troubleshooting needs to be done first.<br>

Just a guess, but if the cam grinder mis-programmed the
machine, for something other than a 90 degree V
configuration; you could have one bank of cylinder's
exhaust valves opening during ignition which would give

distributor with points eliminator.
Thought about timing issues but that
probably would cause both headers to
heat the same rate?. My spark plugs
on the side with the red hot header
are a little dark like being too rich,
not white or burned like its running
