[DeTomaso] ZF Reverse switch nuts

Mike,

There are 3 solutions that have been discussed in this thread I am aware of.

  1.
Helicoil - the traditional 80's spring like thread repair.
  2.
Thread Sert - The major brand is Time Sert, it's an internal thread (the one you want to replace) and threaded exterior barrel, one has to drill and tap an oversize hole then thread the Time Sert in, securing it using Loctite. These are way better than helicoils and my go to for thread repair where three's enough meat to drill out a larger hole.
     *
For the M10 x1.0 internal thread the external is a M12 x 1.0 https://www.amazon.com/Camrusic-M10x1-0-M12x1-0-Stainless-Automotive/dp/B0BW91RF1N/ref=pd_lpo_sccl_2/144-2832585-1005556?pd_rd_w=Pgxk1&content-id=amzn1.sym.4c8c52db-06f8-4e42-8e56-912796f2ea6c&pf_rd_p=4c8c52db-06f8-4e42-8e56-912796f2ea6c&pf_rd_r=F7XTSSX3PBVA73MHQ8Z8&pd_rd_wg=EOuJ6&pd_rd_r=23c2b9f7-e31f-446a-8a2a-abd26d630c76&pd_rd_i=B0BW91RF1N&th=1
     *
and get a thin jam nut for the inside https://belmetric.com/nuts/jam-thin-nuts/?DiameterThread2=M12X1.0__Super__Fine&filterPage=1
  3.
Nutsert or Rivnut - an internal threaded pop rivet.

In Ken's case if using a Rivnut he'll just need to make sure it doesn't protrude into the housing to an extent it prevents linkage selecting reverse gear. As the housing is so thin one could use a Time Sert and get a thin nut to clamp it through the hole and cut it down to the nut per 2. above.

Jeff,

Google doesn’t know what a ‘thread seat’ is, except for stitching on a seat.

Do you mean nutserts, also known as rivnuts?

That sounds like the superior solution to me, far better than a helicoil. One would have to be sure they didn’t interfere with the movement of the linkage but I think there is enough room.

Unless these mystical thread seats are some third solution?
