[DeTomaso] Brake booster

I was incorrect. I found a flaw in my test setup. Once corrected I found the booster -is- working properly. Re-installed to the car and using the same vacuum pump starting in the engine compartment yields a good feel now. And the booster holds four more pedal presses after vacuum is removed.

Now that I’m comfortable it all works, I need to talk the owner into an on-board make up vacuum pump. Their engine vacuum at idle is between 7-10 in. That’s not enough to properly drive the booster effectively.

For what it’s worth, I used an off the shelf vacuum pump used on many new cars today. I attached a vacuum gauge on a T, and it draws up to 24” of vacuum which works well for testing.

My error in earlier testing was not properly sealing the front of the booster without the master in place. I also had to clean the front seal and check valve which both had two different gasket sealers. This kind of work does not instill confidence in the Pantera vendor who worked on this car.

We have a happy vacuum booster now. :)

I figured boosters were going to be a vendor specific part but I had to ask.

Thank you,

Once attached to the pump, the booster shows about 1 or 2 inches all through the travel. The input shaft is just as difficult to push with and without vacuum applied.
