Charlie,
An excellent point. Mine was rebuilt by Bobby Oliver at Competition
Carburetor. He sends you a detailed questionnaire about your engine,
and then builds a carb to suit.

One other thought David - there is no one carb that is perfect for
every engine. An off-the-shelf carb from PPC or anyone else may work
perfectly for a stock engine but terribly for a highly modified one. Or
it may work great on a 408 stroker, as that's what it has been set up
for, but could struggle with a stock engine. Your carb needs to be
configured for your engine specs. I had a terrible time getting a
Holley from one of the Pantera vendors to work on my modified engine
but others have raved about it.
One option if you want your carb to be matched to your engine is to
have it personalized by a carb tuner service. Dr. Chuck Engels
recommended Chuck Nuytten in Texas, and he rebuilt mine 20 years ago
:-o and it transformed it. There are other specialists who can do the
same - you give them your engine specs, cam specs, airflow through the
heads, etc etc and they can come amazingly close to optimizing it
without putting it on a dyno. If you really want a well performing
engine, your carb needs to match your engine or you are leaving
something on the table... food for thought

David,
Without knowing anything about your engine it's impossible to make a
proper recommendation.
With that said, the custom 700 double pumper carbs that Larry Stock
sells are pretty great. I have one on my 331 stroker in my GT350. I
also had one on my 351C in my Pantera, but when it grew to 408, the
carb went to Larry's builder who rebuilt it with a new 750 center
section. And it's terrific.

one? Any input would be appreciated.
