[DeTomaso] Can a fuel sender be rebuilt?

The fuel sender is a simple rheostat. When they break, its always the fine wire windings that a sliding contact traverses. Practically speaking, they are as unrepairable as a burnt light bulb unless you unwind the coil and rebuild it with the same gauge of bare wire..

They seem a very simple beast, and that would be much less expensive
than having to buy a whole new fuel pickup/sender.
