[DeTomaso] Transmission gaskets

Konrad,

The gaskets on the side have to be a specific (very thin) thickness, as they are a critical component in the overall stack height which sets the gear lash. 

Sounds like he didn’t properly prepare the mating surfaces. It’s also possible to twist the bottom cover of the bolts are over torqued or torqued unevenly. 

Sounds like you need to pull the relevant parts and thoroughly clean the mating surfaces, then use new, factory ZF gaskets (Hall Pantera gets them from Lloyd/ZF) and carefully reassemble. 

It may still leak, but it will likely leak much less. 

Also, using synthetic gear lube invites leaks. I prefer to use the ZF- and Ford-recommended GL-5 80W90, conventional gear oil.
