I have stock brakes. Don Byars re-built my front brakes several years ago (obviously) and they are solid. 
I was skeptical when Don said it was all that was needed, but amazed at the result.

Regarding your brake query: The stock brakes, *if* they are in good working order (meaning no frozen pistons in the calipers, fresh fluid, braided stainless/Teflon flex lines, with no leaks) and *if* they are fitted with modern pads, such as Porterfield R4-S, are all anybody would ever need for street driving. 

My car has a full Wilwood system while Lori’s has an optimized stock setup. Her brake pedal feel is superior to mine and her brakes actually inspire greater confidence. I may wind up fitting different rear calipers with smaller pistons on my car in an effort to regain pedal feel….
