Thanks Jim. The question now is how to ID the one I have as an early or
late unit without taking it apart.

Your memory is correct Mike, the later cars with the clutch effort reduction
kit have a shorter shaft length.- Jim

Subject: [DeTomaso] Clutch Master Cylinder - Difference Pre-L to L?
I've been going through my parts stores yet again during the restoration to
look for things I may or may not want to use. I found an brand-new OEM
clutch master cylinder that I won many years ago at a Fun Rally, tucked in a
box, and promptly forgot about. I have a CNC master right now that will be
going back into the car, but I'd like to know whether the OEM master I have
would work if I need it to.
Question is this: was there a difference in the design, shaft length or
something, between the masters used for the earlier cars without the pedal
effort reduction kit and those with the PER kit? I seem to recall the
later cars used a shorter shaft?
Thanks
Mike Thomas
