I would assume that to be the High Pressure hose from the Compressor to the Condenser hose? That is the one that gets all the abuse, the other hoses should be fine and we have found that the R-12 mineral oil used actually fills in the pores and seals it for the smaller R-134 molecules so the new barrier hose is not needed either but the use of Ester 100 oil is imperative to use in your new system. Ester oil is compatible with small dilutions of mineral oil used in R-12 systems while the new PAG oils will participate a gooey white substance that will soon clog the valve filter in a few weeks' time of running and stop cooling then blow up the system if left unchecked. 

Your system uses flare fittings which if assembled correctly give a forever seal. Most All new Compressor systems come with O'Ring fittings and contain PAG Oil. O'Ring fittings are really easy to assemble, and are good for 5-10 years, and most of the A/C shops have forgotten how to seal a Flare Fitting due to lack of recent experience. We stock the original Flare fitting compressors and Hoses.
