(Yes, I sold my Pantera a while back, but still love 'em enough to
enjoy this list) Given this wild new purple carbon fiber beast that is
following the P72, I find myself more than a little interested in what
you all think about what the deTomaso name is turning into. I look at
these new cars & well, I just don't get it. Seems to me like deep
pockets looking to toy around with exotic car-making just needed a
cool name to slap on them. My take here may be off, but wasn't
DeTomaso a company that made cars for people like us and not for
Arabian oil sheiks and their sons? Seems to me by now we should be
seeing a new Pantera rocking by now, maybe priced to compete with
track-ready factory versions of Corvette or Challenger. There is a lot
to draw upon when moving forward with ownership of the DeTomaso name.
Aside from the P72 dog tag hung around the neck of car #1, I can see
nothing here showing anything of what I know to be DeTomaso. A fun
little mountain road flying 2-seater like MX3/Miata or BMW Z4, maybe
based on the P70, wouldn't that be cool as hell. This "boutique"
stuff they are making just smacks to me of bored ultra-rich people
throwing money around amongst themselves for fun. Which is of course
fine, but...... is it DeTomaso?
