To all,
Just an uneducated question... does not the shavings from a brass gear have a chance of doing damage to bearings or oil pump?
Have a good rest of the day,
Bud ( Drive it like there is no tomorrow, for there may not be )

I was originally told 10,000 miles but when I changed mine at 8000 miles it was worn and feathered more than I would have liked to have seen, so that why I now say 5000 miles instead of the original 10,000 miles. You should follow the cam manufactures recommendations on which type of gear to run for each manufactures cam. Brass is safe to run in most all cases, but may not give much longevity, but it wont harm the cam drive.

Iron cams need iron gears and steel roller cams need steel gears. Brass gears are a relic of the past….
