[DeTomaso] #94 McDonald's NASCAR auction ends today and "thanks"for the support last weekend

If the dowel pins have elongated the distributor shaft holes or if is a single double pin that the outer pin could fail and you were running on the smaller inner pin. If so, check your oil for pin fragments.

How would that kind of failure impact oil pressure? We still had great oil pressure. We checked at the track and saw only 6-8 degrees of timing and it ran like crap as a result, but had great oil pressure.

I have a vague recollection about a smaller roll pin inside the standard roll pin?

It also drives the oil pump, and the new designs have two pins to hold the gear on the shaft.

    Hi Steve,
You may need to pull the distributor. A common problem used to be the shear pin breaking on the gear to shaft connection. It would usually twist just enough to throw timing off and cause poor running. My money is on that, based on your description.

It doesn’t happen often anymore but is more likely on high horsepower engines.

Let us know what you find. :)
